Big Bags: Various Designs, Consistently High Quality
Controls, Testing Procedures, and Standards for Various Types of Transport Bags
For over 20 years, customers from numerous industries have valued our extensive experience as well as our high-quality products, which we continuously develop. To ensure consistently high quality in our existing products, our big bags, also known as FIBCs (Flexible Intermediate Bulk Containers), undergo constant quality controls and must prove their stability through recognized testing procedures. Only when they pass the tests do we release them for sale. Due to our quality controls and ongoing company development, our customers receive the best value for money – whether it's our standard big bags, which we produce in large quantities, or customized big bags tailored to the individual requirements of our customers.
Continuous Quality Controls on Our Big Bags
Before Production
- We source polypropylene granules exclusively from the same certified and accredited supplier. This allows us to ensure consistent quality of our big bags.
- Before the start of each production run, the quality manager designs a sample. Since he tests each individual process himself, any challenges within the process are immediately identified.

During the Manufacturing Process

- To avoid errors from the outset and to be able to react directly to errors, a specially trained employee is responsible for each individual step in the manufacturing process - from extrusion and weaving to cutting, printing, and attaching lifting loops, woven parts, closure tapes, etc., up to cleaning, inspection, and packaging, overseeing the process.
- A finished sample at each station makes it easier for employees to compare the current state with the desired state.
- To promptly detect errors, each Big Bag is checked multiple times during production.
After Manufacturing
- If a mistake occurs despite the intensive checks during the production process, it can be traced back to the station where it originated, thanks to a numbering system.
- We keep records of all operations and archive this data for years.
- In addition, at least one Big Bag per batch must undergo a load test.

Precise Testing Procedures for Big Bags

Before our big bags are put up for sale, they are tested and certified according to DIN EN ISO 21898 (a standard aimed at improving the safety and handling of big bags).
Depending on whether the big bag is intended for single or limited multiple use, it must pass different load capacity tests. Both single-use and limited multiple-use big bags are first filled with granules and suspended in a testing device.
Subsequently, pressure is applied to the big bag for half-minute intervals during multiple test runs. The intensity of the pressure and the number of test runs vary depending on whether it's a single-use or limited multiple-use big bag: limited multiple-use big bags must withstand significantly higher loads than single-use big bags. The number of test cycles is also more than double for limited multiple-use big bags.
Single-use big bags, intended for sale, must not rupture at a load of five times the maximum filling weight, while limited multiple-use big bags must not rupture until a load of six times their maximum filling weight.
Applicable Standards for Asbestos and Mineral Wool Bags
Depending on the purpose for which the big bag is used, it must meet specific requirements and therefore comply with specific standards. For example, our asbestos big bags are manufactured and labeled according to TRGS 519, and our mineral wool bags are manufactured and labeled according to TRGS 521. Since our big bags are used in both the food and agriculture industry as well as the chemical industry, we also offer additional big bags in various designs.
Our Big Bag Variants for Special Requirements
Foodgrade Bags for Food
Foodgrade Bags are perfect for safely storing and transporting food. They are certified according to DIN ISO 22000:2005 standards for the food industry. They are food-safe as they do not impart color to the contents. Additionally, no particles from the material of the Big Bags are released. Our Foodgrade Bags are also manufactured in compliance with the highest hygiene standards, which we ensure through continuous checks.
Big Bags with Air-Permeable Fabric
Goods that quickly spoil or mold are best stored in air-permeable Big Bags. Thanks to the specially developed fabric, there is air exchange between the inside of the Big Bag and its outer environment.
Dangerous Goods and UN Bags
To store or transport dangerous goods in Big Bags, the transport bags must meet certain UN standards and have appropriate labeling - either for hazardous or less hazardous substances. Before Big Bags receive this labeling, they must pass numerous tests that assess how they react to different loads. This includes test scenarios where the Big Bag is dropped from a certain height - both vertically and tilted. Additionally, tests are conducted to observe the behavior of a tilted Big Bag filled with its maximum weight, lifted by one or two lifting loops. Further tests are conducted regarding tensile strength and resistance to heavy pressure from above. On the outside of our UN Big Bags, in addition to the UN labeling, the maximum allowable filling weight in kilograms is indicated.
4-Loop Circular Woven Fabric
When our 4-Loop Circular Woven Fabric Big Bags are filled, they have a round shape. As they are made from a woven tube, they have no seams on the sides. This reduces the areas susceptible to material loss. Therefore, the Big Bags - with additional seam sealing - are suitable for transporting or storing finely powdered goods.
4-Loop Flat Woven Fabric
The conventional Big Bag has a cuboid or cube shape. It consists of a U-panel and two side panels. Upon request, it is available in a dustproof and/or dimensionally stable version.
Dimensionally Stable Bags
Dimensionally stable bags mostly have a rectangular or square base. Thanks to special internal reinforcements, they retain their shape even when filled and hardly bulge outward. This feature proves practical both for storage on shelves or pallets and during transport on loading surfaces, as the Big Bags do not protrude on the side, thus avoiding any wasted space. Upon request, we also manufacture Foodgrade Bags or UN Bags in a dimensionally stable design.
Antistatic / Conductive Big Bags
In areas where there is a risk of explosion or during the transportation of quickly flammable or highly explosive goods, antistatic or conductive bags are used. This is to protect all individuals working with the bags. Depending on where the big bags are filled and what kind of material is to be stored or transported in them, different types of big bags are used: Type B (antistatic) or Type C (conductive). Our experienced team is happy to provide you with more detailed advice on this.
